For all of you who expected me to post a little Bobby McFerrin, you'll be a tad disappointed. I mean, I did google him. And then I pondered posting his video (a little Robin Williams circa 1988 never hurt anyone) but instead I'm going to use your attention to discuss positivity.
The Big P has never been my strong point; since around the 5th grade when I was teased until I cried (None of them saw it! Personal best!), I gave up thinking that the day after the next after the next would be any better than the present. Kids can be cruel, and apparently so can possible employers
Last night at dinner with my mother, I explained my distress at not having been hired after three plus months of applications. She encouraged me to put down the bottle of vodka and pick up a positive attitude. Whenever we sit down for lunch, dinner, snack, etc...job searching comes up and the tears start pouring down. There's nothing personal when it comes to being hired, because someone will always have better qualifications (or luck, whichever. See previous entries) and I should not be as frustrated as I am. What she suggested to me was to keep going; I guess like me she's superstitious. By believing you're going to do well you will. In that respect, she insists that I stop being a whiny baby and just continue using the attitude I started out with. I told her that the "f*ck you guys, I rock" freshly-graduated mindset won't work the same way a few months later, but she shrugged and said "So what?"
I tweaked my crude former thoughts and came up with "I will get hired because I rock" (no sense being modest). There's no reason to be sniffly and mopey (two dwarfs Disney didn't want you to know about); I thought I'd try to cheer myself up without booze by going onto Youtube.
Demetri Martin is a Magic Man...I'm grinning already.
